Wish You Were Here, Part II

Almost everyone I know loves the Fall... the air gets crisp, the leaves turn colors, it's sweater weather. I have finally accepted that summer can be too hot and summery, and have accepted the conventional wisdom of the supremacy of autumn. But there really hasn't been a time when I haven't loved Fall.

In a way, Fall was always my re-birth. Back to school. I would see my friends again, and re-teach my hand to write after a long summer of active gross-motor function. I would get new back-to-school clothes. Re-learn to get up early in the morning. Always a new start, a new year, a new chance. Always the Adirondack fall foliage to look forward to, the brisk bike rides, the clear view of French Mountain from my window once the leaves had fallen.

Yeah, winter is on its way, and days get way too short way too quickly. But by the time autumn comes, I could really use a break from summer. And yeah, it starts getting really cool outside, but I get to heap blankets on my bed and sleep with its comfortable weight around me. Summer will always be my favorite, but there's something about autumn that can't be denied.

My new Wish You Were Here is a photo album on my Shutterfly page. It's a bunch of photos that I took on a walk around my neighborhood. Come see what a beautiful day it was on November 9, 2008!

Great pictures Jeff, and thank you for sharing November 9th with me. I could not agree with you more, I love fall. The cooler nights could not come fast enough for me! It is a time to get back into routine, which can be a really comforting.

I like this photo a lot. The yellow leaves against the blue sky really pop. When I was in elementary school I collected leaves that had fallen from the trees and eventually they would turn completely brown. But I still collected them everyday with the hope that those fall colors would last forever.

I love the perspective of this piece. It makes me feel like I am a little girl gazing up into the sky to see the fall leaves dance with the wind.

I really identify with your experience of fall. Winter is definitely on it's way but fall is so sensual and beautiful. The change is so powerful that in evokes undeniable memories. This image activates that experience with the sun lightening up the golden leaves.

Your photographs are lovely, as is the writing in your entry. I particularly like the ones gazing up through the branches. They evoke the experience of fall - a season where we all look up, soaking in the beauty.

It is a season of dichotomies for me, glorious to experience, but the impending winter makes me melancholy.

Jeff,

You have captured one of my favorite aspects of autumn in the city. No matter how gray and industrial the city can seem at times, the autumn leaves have the power to soften the entire environment. The yellow hue in this picture is electric! Great job. More importantly, you simply walked around your hometown and found the beauty existing, waiting for your camera.

Jeff,
Your comment on my second painting observes exactly what I felt about that piece. Thanks!
Also, nice shutterfly pictures! I have one of those "Farmers Rock" t-shirts myself.

This picture is exactly why I love Philadelphia in the fall! The colors are so vibrant and bold; theres nothing more I love to see on a crisp October day than beautiful bright leaves against a pristine blue sky. Good work!
